Mauricio: Palmer Doubtful for Chelsea’s Clash with Wolves in Premier League

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed doubts about the availability of star forward Cole Palmer for the upcoming Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Chelsea’s Upcoming Fixture

The Blues are set to face Wolves on Monday in their Premier League Round 22 encounter. However, Palmer’s participation is uncertain after he suffered a knock during Tuesday’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth. Despite the incident, Palmer managed to complete the game.

Maresca’s Injury Update

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Maresca said:

“He took a knock, so he didn’t train today. We’re not sure if he will train tomorrow.”

The Chelsea boss also mentioned that three or four players are dealing with fitness concerns after the physical encounter with Bournemouth.

“There are doubts about the participation of three or four players for Monday’s match after they picked up some issues in the last game,” Maresca explained.

Palmer’s Importance to Chelsea

Maresca emphasized Palmer’s significance to the team, stating:

“We rely on Cole because he’s a big player for us. We prefer to have him available, but if he’s injured or struggling, we will find a solution.”

Palmer has been Chelsea’s standout performer this season, leading the team with 14 Premier League goals. His absence would be a significant blow to the Blues as they aim to maintain their position in the league standings.

Wolves’ New Look Under a New Manager

Maresca also highlighted the challenges posed by Wolves, who have undergone changes since Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over them in August.

“Wolves have a new manager, so they don’t play the same way as they did earlier in the season. It’s a new game, with a new coach and a different style of attack and defense. I hope we’re ready and can secure all three points,” Maresca concluded.

Current Standings

Chelsea currently sit fifth in the Premier League table with 37 points, while Wolves, under their new manager, continue to adapt and improve.

The Blues will hope Palmer can recover in time to bolster their attack and help secure a crucial win on Monday.
